Basic Steps

In salsa, every step has a timing of eight (8) counts or eight steps.

The first basic goes like this:
Back Basic Movement
1. Stop, tap your right foot, don't change the weight. Don't move your left foot.
2. Right rock back, on the 2nd beat of the music. Slide your rigth foot back and change weight onto the Right leg. Don't move your Left foot!
3. Left rock forward, change weight onto the left leg. Don't move your Right foot.
4. Step forward and close, toe first, slide your right foot forward and change weight onto the right leg. Don't move your Left foot!
~You are now ready to do the forward movement.

1. Stop, tap your left foot, don't change weight. Don't move your right foot.
2. Left rock forward, on the 2nd beat of the music, toe first, slide your Left foot Forward and change weight onto the Left leg. Don't move your Right foot!
3. Right rock back, change weight onto the Right leg. Don't move your Left foot.
4. Step back and close, slide your Left foot Back and change weight onto the Left leg. Don't move your Right foot!
~You are now ready to do the back movement.

Ladies: You will always start every move with your Right foot Back.
Gentlemen: You will always start every step with your Left foot forward.
