  • Janice (played by Maggie Wheeler) is the only recurring character to appear in all ten seasons of Friends.

  • All of the friends have lived in Monica's apartment, though it is not shown when Ross lived
    there(Monica mentions in the final episode that Ross had lived in the apartment with their grandmother Nana one
    summer when he was trying to make it as a dancer).

  • Phoebe's twin sister Ursula was featured in both Friends and the show Mad About You.
    Helen Hunt, who starred on Mad About You at the time, also made a guest appearance on Friends.

  • Ross has been married and divorced a total of three times: first, to Carol, who turned out to be a lesbian
    a became pregnant with his son, Ben; to Emily, a woman he met through Rachel, who also divorced Ross when he
    said Rachel's name at the altar; and Rachel during a drunken night in Las Vegas.


  • The opening credits from the first season of Friends in which the cast is dancing around a water
    fountain with umbrellas were left unchanged for the entire run of the series, with the exception of the
    episode entitled "The One that Could have Been" during Season 6 which shows how the friends would look
    if they had taken different paths in life (the most significant change showing Monica if she had never lost weight).


  • The title of every episode of Friends begins with "TOW", abbreviated to mean "The One With", "The One Where", or
    "The One When". The only episodes not to being with "TOW" are "The Pilot", "The One That Could Have Been", and "The Finale".


  • Jennifer Aniston had starred in the original Leprechaun film before being cast in Friends.

  • Courtney Cox was a recurring character on the series Family Ties as Michael J. Fox's girlfriend before she starred on Friends.

  • Prominent Hollywoods stars have guest starred on Friends as family members of the group, most notably:

  • Friends continues to run in syndication in the U.S and around the world.

  • Several clips of Joey starring on "Days of Our Lives" featuring real actors from the series, such Kristian Alfonso

  • The entire cast of Friends was featured in the music video for The Rembrandts track "I'll Be There For You",

  • James Michael Tyler, who portrayed Gunther in the series, was cast in the role because he was the only extra
    on the set who could operate an espresso machine, having worked in real life in several coffee shops before acting.

  • Courtney Cox was originally asked to audition for the role of Rachel, but opted to read for Monica believing she
    was more suitable for that particular role.

  • After the September 11 attacks, the picture of Manhattan hanging in the kitchen of Joey and Rachel's apartment
    was replaced with an American flag, and remained there for the rest of the series.

  • The highest rated episode in the history of Friends is "The One After the Superbowl", which aired immediately
    after the NBC telecast of Super Bowl XXX, in an hour-long broadcast that featured guest appearances by Brooke Shields,
    Chris Isaak, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Julia Roberts. The episode drew in 52.9 million viewers.
