Rachel Green
Rachel left her priviledged life and fiance behind and joined the group at their local
hangout, Central Perk, where she had her first job as a waitress. She became roommates
with high school pal Monica, as well as reignited the intense feelings of Ross, who had
harbored an intense crush on Rachel for 10 years. Rachel finally learned about Ross's true
feelings and came to the realization that she, too, romantic had feelings for him. But, Ross's
return home from a Paleontological dig with a new girlfriend in tow delayed Rachel confessing
her true feelings. One drunken dinner date changed all that when, during the middle of a date,
boozy Rachel left
Ross a message revealing her secret crush. Their union was further delayed
when Rachel discovered the list in which Ross used to compare Rachel and his girlfriend Julie in
making his final choice. The two united, at last, when Ross's true feelings for Rachel were revealed
in a videotape where Ross steps in as the date for jilted Rachel. All seemed to be well until a fight
about Ross's jealousy and Rachel's commitment to her work in fashion caused Rachel to announce "Maybe
we should take a break". This led Ross to assume the relationship was over, leading to a one-night stage
with the girl at the copy place. Ultimately, Ross and Rachel split up, though they continued to
dance
around their feelings for years to come and were bonded together forever with the birth of their daughter
Emma, a result of a drunkened one-night stand. In the
end, Ross and Rachel found their way back to each
other for good when Ross begged Rachel to stay when she was offered a job in Europe.
Monica Geller
Known for her obsessive cleanliness and competitve streak, Monica often serves
as the hostess of the group, due to the fact that her apartment is the meeting
grounds for
the group, aside from the coffee house. She lives across the hall from Joey.
She is often at odds with her older brother Ross when it comes to gaining the affection of
her parents who usually show favoritism
toward Ross. Her job as a chef mirrors her past
as an overly obese child. She also had a desire to be married and have kids, leading to a
string ofrelationships, but finally found love with one of her close friends, Chandler, when
the two shared a night of intimacy when the gang went to London for Ross's second wedding. The
two kept the relationship asecret for months, until they were caught by the rest of the group.
After three years together, Monica and Chandler finally were married. When they later decided to
have kids, they found it difficult to
conceive, and in the end, became the adoptive parents of
twins and left city life behind.
Phoebe Buffay
Phoebe is known in the group as the quirky, free-spirited one of the group, most
evident when it is revealed that she was married to a gay ice dancer. Aside from
her job as a free-lance masseuse, she performs regularly at Central Perk, performing
offbeat songs with her guitar that she composes herself, most notably "Smelly Cat".
Phoebe did not live a normal childhood nor have the typical family like the other Friends-her mother
committed suicide at a young age her stepfather was sent to prison, and her real father abandoned
the family after Phoebe was born. Phoebe also has a twin sister, Ursula, who is as quirky as Phoebe,
though more oblivious to people's feelings. It was later that Phoebe learned who her real birth mother was
and was reunited with her, as well as her birth father. Phoebe also met her half-brother Frank and his
fiancee, and agreed to act as a surrogate, eventually giving birth to their triplets. Phoebe remained single
throughout the series, but that changed when she met Mike, a guy Joey randomly picked when he forgot about
a planned double date. Phoebe finally found her soulmate, and the two married in the snow on a clear Winter
night outside the Central Perk.
Ross Geller
Ross is Monica's older brother and, for a while, was the straight-laced one in the group
until he became involved in his own crazy adventures, most notably his numerous marriages.
When the series first starts, Ross has just divorced his first wife, Carol, after discovering she
was a lesbian and pregnant with his son, Ben. He then become reaccquainted with Rachel, whom
he has harbored a secret crush for ten years. His feelings are kept hidden until Chandler
inadvertently reveals Ross's secret to Rachel. Unbeknowest to Ross, Rachel develops a crush of
her own and the two came together. Later, tension starts to build between the two when Ross
admits to feeling neglected by Rachel when she lands a knew job, and he cannot conceal his jealous
over her new work friend, Mark. This leads to a fight, in which Rachel suggests they take a break.
Ross misinterprets this as an end to the relationship, and drowns his sorrows a local bar. Drunk
and depressed, he has one-night stand with a woman he meets at the bar. The next morning, Rachel
calls to make up, with Ross scrambling to hide his affair. The secret eventually gets out(thanks in
large part to Gunther), and Rachel ends the relationship. However, the two still possess strong
feelings for each other and later reunite. But a letter written by Rachel asking if Ross accepted
full responsibility fo the end of the relationship strikes a nerve with Ross, with him exclaiming
the now-infamous phrase, "We Were on a Break!" They break up again, this time for good, with Ross
moving on, becoming engaged to Emily, whom he met through Rachel. Realizing she is still in love
with Ross, Rachel races to London to stop the wedding, but remains silent during the wedding when
she realizes Ross has found new love. Things really get interesting when Ross says "I take thee,
Rachel". This results in another divorce for Ross. Rachel admits her feelings, but the two agree
to remain close friends, even after a mishap in Las Vegas when they got married while drunk, and
Ross keeping the marriage a secret from Rachel. After several years, another one drunken night
changes the lives of Ross and Rachel forever when she becomes pregnant with his child, Emma.
In the end, Rachel and Ross, once again, find their way back to each other.
Chandler Bing
If anyone of the friends is looking for a little sarcasm, none have to look far than
Chandler. Chandler, with his quick-witted humor and sarcasm, has used this as a defense
mechanism when it comes to his fear of relationships and intimacy, greatly due to the tumultuous
marriage/divorce of his parents, ending with his father moving to Las Vegas to star in an all-male
gay burlesque show. His friendship with Joey proved to be the strongest out of any in the group. As far
as relationships, his most signicant is with Janice, a fast-talking woman whom Chandler found considerably
annoying, yet maintained an on again-off again-on again relationship for several years. Even years after
their final break-up, they have ran into each in the most awkward situations, such as Rachel's birth and
at his new home with Monica. His views on intimacy changed greatly when he became involved with Monica.
His "Chandlerisms" disappeared forever when he proposed to Monica, and at last, found his true love.
Joey Tribbiani
"How you doin'?", is Joey's famous catchphrase for picking up woman, a craft that he has proven to
be an expert on. Joey has lived in the apartment across the hall from Monica for the entire run of show. He was roommates
with Chandler, and then became roommates with Rachel when Chandler moved in with Monica. In the beginning, Joey has
had to continuously struggle as an actor, by taking jobs as a perfume-selling cowboy in a department store, and starring
in mediocre plays, such as "Freud!". His big break finally came when he won an occurring role on "Days of Our Lives" as
neurosurgeon Dr. Drake Ramoray. His dream job abruptly came to an end when his character was killed off by falling into an elevator shaft. Joey resumed going
from one acting to another, and even took a job at Central Perk to make ends meet. Joey's luck seemed to turn around
when he was cast as part of a crime-fighting team with a robot on a cable access tv show, and offered a job to return
to "Days of out Lives" as the twin brother of Dr. Ramoray. After hearing that he had to audition to be his own
twin, Joey balked at the idea. But after his cable show was cancelled, he pleaded with the creaters for a job, and in
the end, he returned to "Days" as a comatose Dr. Ramoray. His character was eventually brought back to live when a female
character being killed off with Dr. Ramoray receiving her brain in a transplant. Joey's life as a womanizing bachelor
was shaken when he started to develop romantic feelings for Rachel while they were roommates when she was pregnant with
Ross's baby. He was hearbroken when she did not feel the same, but they remained friends. Things became more interesting
when Rachel developed a crush of her own on Joey. The two started dating, but the relationship ended quickly when both realized
friendship ment more than romance. Joey was saddened when Monica and Chandler left the city, and decided to embark on an
adventure of his own by moving to Los Angeles to live with his sister and nephew to start his career over.
