You are being asked to participate because you are an American citizen who is old enough to vote and to serve as a juror in criminal and civil trial proceedings. Participation in this research study is completely voluntary. You will be involved in this study for one (1) day, for one (1) session, each session lasting for no more than 30 minutes. You are free to withdraw from the study at any time.
The survey is designed to be anonymous. Nobody will have a link between your identity and the responses you make. No one will reveal that you are a participant in this study without your consent, unless specifically required by law.
This study is not expected to put you at risk. There are no known harms or discomforts associated with this study beyond those you would encounter in daily life. Certain topics discussed in this survey may cause some minimal psychological discomfort, but that should not last more than a few minutes.
Others may benefit from
information gathered from this study. The data collected will be used to assess
the current jury system and legal system, and will be made available to other
researchers for secondary use. This information will further our understanding
of the social issues surrounding certain legal mechanisms and standards. No one
working on this study has any financial benefit or interest in the results of
this study.
If you have any questions or comments regarding the conduct of this research or your rights as a research subject, please contact the UCR HRRB:
